When talking about grapes, we might think of purple, green, or red colored fruits.

But actually, there are so many types of grapes that you can find in nature. Also, not a few of these grape species are crossed to bring out new varieties.

1. Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is usually referred to as lazy grapes. That is because its treatment is requiring no effort and easy to grow in any weather.

Also, Cabernet Sauvignon is resistant to diseases, so you do not need to worry about its treatment.

In addition to this, the history of this grape variety brings us back to three hundred years ago.

It is said that this grape is a cross from Bordeaux and white Sauvignon. On top of that, this grape is known as one of the world-famous types of grapes used to make red wine.

2. Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is known as one of the types of grapes used for winemaking. This red grapes come from the species Vitis vinifera and are 1000 years older than Cabernet Sauvignon.

Aside from the U.S and France, this variety of grapes is widely grown in Germany.

The characteristics of this grape are thin skin with a medium-sized body, and the young grape emits a berry-like aroma.

3. Concord Grapes

Derived from the species Vitis labrusca, Concord grapes were originally grown in Eastern America around the 19th century.

Now, these sweet grapes have spread throughout the world.

Also, this type of grape is often used as a fruit juice ingredient. That is because Concord is considered to have all the advantages found in red and white grapes.

Processed products from these grapes are jam, jelly, juice, food flavoring, cakes, sweets, and much more.

4. Muscadine Grapes

This type of grapes comes from the species Vitis rotundifolia. Muscadine grapes are easily found in the United States, especially in Florida and Texas. Further, it has been known since the 16th century.

Muscadine grapes can flourish in a warm and humid climate as well. Its fruit skin is thick and quite hard. So, when you eat this grape variety, its taste and texture are almost like a plum.

5. Kyoho Grapes

It is one of the types of grapes to grow in Japan. Kyoho grapes are known for its purple-black color.

Its skin is thin and so easy to peel. This grape variety also has a juicy and light taste.

The main attraction of this grape actually comes from its fruit size. Kyoho grapes can even reach the size of a plum.

Therefore, in its native country, this fruit was nicknamed the king of grapes.

6. Merlot Grapes

Merlot is one of the kinds of grapes easily found in the Bordeaux wine region.

This type of grape has dark-blue colored fruit. Also, Merlot grapes are very juicy and sweet when it ripens.

The name of Merlot itself comes from the French term merle, which means black bird – referring to the color of this grape variety.

Moon drops are a grape variety that is specifically grown to have no seeds and have a sweet taste. Another charm of this grape is its unique shape.

To be able to enjoy this grape variety, you must wait for its harvest season between August 20th and November 15th.

8. Lemberger

Lemberger is one of the grapes used to produce red wine. In German terms, this grape is called Blaufrankisch.

The ripen Lemberger has a dark-purple color with a slightly spicy flavor when processed into wine.

This grape also has plump fruit with a berry-like aroma. If you peel its skin and then eat fresh Lemberger, its taste is sweeter than table grapes.

9. Sweet Jubilee

This grape variety has a large oval-shaped fruit. Its taste is also sweet and clean.

Meanwhile, to enjoy Sweet Jubilee, you have to wait for its harvest season which occurs between mid-August till early September.

 10. Valiant

Valiant is known as a tough grape because it can thrive in frozen temperatures. This blue colored grape also has a plump fruit and can grow in hard soil conditions.

Compared to the average table grapes, Valiant size is much larger as well. Further, its skin is very easy to peel, and this grape variety offers a rich taste.

This grape is sometimes called black Corinth. Although the origin place of this grape is expected from Asia or Greece, Champagne is more commonly found in the United States and Europe.

This type of grape also offers a sweet taste with a soft texture. The average size of Champagne is usually as big as peas.

This grape has a harvest season between August and November. Mostly grown in California, Crimson Seedless is one of the most common red table grapes found in supermarkets.

It is one of the most popular grape types in Germany. Riesling also has a sweet taste and solid bunches.

The fruit size is rather small and offers a fairly high acidity level. Also, this grape variety has a floral aroma and is tasty to be made of dried fruit.

The types of grapes are very diverse, and of course, each variety has different characteristics.

Other than that, the health benefits of grapes are many, including preventing cancer, slowing down tumor cell growth, and fighting free radicals.
